Closet bolts are used to secure water closets to the flange. Johni-bolts are designed to be used with a wax ring or toilet gasket to provide leak-proof perimeter around the water closet base. The head of the bolt is fitted into a closet flange and protrudes up through a hole in the toilet bowl then a nut tightens the toilet bowl to the floor, typically hand tightened or a quarter of a turn is all you need. Closet bolts are usually solid brass because brass is more resistant to corrosion from urine and chlorine than brass plated steel would be.
